This job is for a Technical Animator on a 12-month temporary contract with PlayStation Studios. The role involves collaborating with engineers to develop tools and technologies, creating animation systems in Blender, and ensuring efficient game systems that support animation. Previous experience in the games industry and strong knowledge of Python in Maya or Blender are required. What you'll do

  • Participating in vision setting for content and tools.
  • Collaborating with engineers to develop cutting edge tools and technologies.
  • Developing tooling and pipelines for animation in Blender, identifying bottlenecks and proactively resolving issues with robust, innovative, technical solutions.
  • Ensuring designs are broken down into clear, actionable plans and that they are clearly communicated to design, animation and engineering.
  • Developing and implementing efficient game systems that support animation.
  • Creating re-usable, bespoke rigs, skinning and dynamic animation systems in Blender.
  • Partnering closely with Animation, Engineering, and Art - ensuring all dependencies are met and positive communication between teams.
  • Collaborating with animation on optimization and performance strategies.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a gameplay animator / technical animator or equivalent role within the games industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Python in Maya or Blender and coding standards and practices
  • Experience writing & deploying standalone python tools
  • Experience building rigs in Maya or Blender
  • Experience of Qt/PySide a strong plus.
  • Experience working with version control systems like Perforce or Git.
  • Experience of industry standard and/or bespoke game engines
  • Deep knowledge of an animator’s needs and requirements.
  • Excellent understanding of animation fundamentals, human anatomy and kinesiology
