Sr. Payroll Specialist (Contract)


Contract Position


This job is for a Senior Payroll Specialist based in Austin, Texas on a fixed-term contract lasting 6 months. The role involves processing multiple payrolls across different countries, partnering with third-party payroll vendors, and ensuring accuracy and compliance in payroll processes.

What you'll do

  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and ad-hoc tasks
  • Partner with third-party payroll vendors
  • Develop and maintain processes for payroll execution
  • Provide deliverables such as global projects, pre-post payroll journals, and internal audits
  • Manage first and second line queries
  • Ensure timely submission of payroll inputs
  • Balance payrolls to inputs
  • Manage documentation within historical payroll files
  • Drive process improvement and optimization
  • Increase subject matter expertise on allocated locations
  • Maintain partnerships with payroll and tax vendors
  • Provide additional processing/transaction support
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships
  • Focus on details and data analytics
  • Adapt to changing priorities
  • Curiosity to learn and grow
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excel in a teamwork-oriented setting


  • Prior payroll in-house processing experience of at least 3+ years in a high growth, product or tech led company
  • Experience processing multi-state and/or international payrolls is required
  • Strong payroll skills - you’ll have experience in all forms of preparing, processing, correcting, and auditing with all aspects of payroll - as well as the ability to learn new payroll processes efficiently
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal - Other languages are always welcome!
  • Above average tech skills – particularly with Excel, where you’ll need to know your way around pivot tables, charts, sheets, formulas etc. - as well as being proficient in using payroll software
  • Ideally a professional payroll certification to demonstrate your expertise within the field of payroll
  • Additional education such as a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Mexican and/or Brazilian payroll experience
