Content Associate, Physics (12-month contract, $70/hour, 25 hours/week)

Summary

This job is for a Content Associate in Physics at Khan Academy, a nonprofit organization focused on providing free, high-quality education to students worldwide. The role involves developing engaging and rigorous science lessons aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or The Advanced Placement® Program (AP), and collaborating with the content team to expand science courses. The ideal candidate should have teaching experience, content development experience in science or high school/AP-level physics, and a passion for education.

What you'll do

  • Develop high-quality lessons for up to high school physics
  • Leverage market research, subject matter expertise, and intuition for learner needs to expand Science courses
  • Create NGSS and College Board-aligned exercises and articles
  • Use content management system to improve existing courses and build new courses
  • Review new content, maintain existing content, and work with partners
  • Ensure alignment with Next Generation Science Standards and AP
  • Publish quickly, gather user feedback, and iterate on content
  • Have impeccable command of written communication
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail and have time management skills
  • Possess project management skills and willingness to learn new tools
  • Have a passion for education and a desire to change the world

Requirements

  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Proven ability to create high-impact learning content in your discipline (minimum of 2 years of content development experience in science, high school and or AP-level physics)
  • Strong intuition for how students like to learn and insight into common misconceptions (minimum of 2 years of relevant teaching/tutoring experience)
  • Experience and aptitude working with the Next Generation Science Standards and AP to ensure alignment
  • Desire to leverage online tools to publish quickly, gather user feedback, and iterate on content
  • Impeccable command of written communication, an energetic can-do attitude as a fluent and efficient content creator, a keen editorial eye for high-quality text in exercises and articles, and a knack for both giving and receiving feedback
  • Meticulous attention to detail and time management skills
  • Project management skills (e.g. fluent with Google docs and spreadsheets and other tools) and a willingness to learn new tools
  • A passion for education and a desire to change the world
  • An advanced degree in a science discipline
  • Expertise in more than one science domain. For example, expertise in physics and chemistry, or expertise in physics and biology.
