Job Title: Software Engineer

Salary: £31,931 - £34,709 (Band D) or £39,748 - £44,166 (Band E) gross per annum dependent on experience*

Location: RAL- Oxfordshire

Reports To: Software Systems Development Manager

Contract Type: 4 x Open Ended Positions

STFC (part of UK Research and Innovation) are seeking a Software Engineer with technical expertise in a relevant aspect of software development to support the delivery of the National Quantum Computing Centres core objectives.

You will work as part of a Quantum Systems Engineering Group within the Research function alongside hardware and applications developers. Utilizing your skills in software and systems architecture robust and re-usable digital assets will be rapidly deployed to meet the goals of the NQCC enabling the delivery of scalable quantum computing capabilities against our technology roadmap.

You will develop flexible software and control architecture to enable a variety or hardware platforms and applications. You will work closely with colleagues across the centre to implement the architecture and deploy services. You will identify appropriate HPC, data analytics and cognitive computing technologies and designing appropriate technology solutions.

Deep technical expertise in quantum computing is not essential as part of the role but would be valuable.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A degree or equivalent in a Computing relevant discipline or the ability to show an equivalent level of knowledge and skills
  • Significant knowledge of software and systems architect
  • Good communication skills both in written and oral with the ability to influence stakeholders
  • Experience with a range of professional tools and methods related to software delivery
  • Experience using MS Office
  • Appreciation of health, safety, and environment
